The 2026 National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) assessment is now open and will remain so through May 31, 2026. Every emergency department in the country is asked to participate, including freestanding EDs and satellite locations, each of which should complete the assessment individually. The assessment could be led by ED nursing leadership in collaboration with physicians, pediatric emergency care coordinators (PECCs), and trauma coordinators. Upon completion, each ED receives an immediate gap report and readiness score, providing a benchmark against other sites nationwide and a clear picture of where to focus improvement efforts.
Everyday pediatric readiness is the foundation of disaster preparedness. Whether your ED sees five pediatric patients a week or fifty, this assessment tells you where you stand. A full promotional toolkit, including a clinician email template, overview flyer, FAQ, and ready-to-use graphics, is available on the EMSC Improvement and Innovation Center’s Spread the Word page.
To check your state and county’s response rates, visit pedsready.org. The response rate map is updated every 24 hours. Questions about the assessment process should be directed to your state EMSC Partnership Program Manager.
WRAP-EM supports the NPRP as a Pediatric Disaster Center of Excellence (PDCOE), developed with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). Partners, healthcare organizations, and emergency management agencies across the western region are encouraged to promote participation in the assessment and share these resources through their networks.
